SATW continues "to develop close links with schools and colleges around Europe"

Schools Around the World, has made a lot of progress over the last year in furthering its core aims and we remain committed to driving this forward over the coming years.

The primary aim of the this registered charity is to help young people who do not have the same access to opportunities as others, inspiring them to have aspirations and to reach their full personal and professional potential.

Our key achievement over the past year has been in the construction of the school in Miono, Tanzania. This is being carried out by the Tanzanian Ministry of Education and has been made possible by a very significant pledge of €700,000 from Schools Around the World. The school will be an incredibly valuable resource in a country which is desperately short of secondary education facilities, and will give hundreds of young Tanzanians the opportunity to study and have a brighter future. More details are given later in this document but at the time of writing the construction works are c 80% complete and we expect the school to be open for students very early in 2012.

Elsewhere, we continue to develop close links with schools and colleges around Europe, focusing on those whose students are disadvantaged in some way, the charity has funded a wide range of cultural and educational activities for the young people from these institutions and in many cases Cushman & Wakefield’s local office has “adopted” the school or college in question and C&W employees are actively involved in planning and delivering these events. In the UK and Turkey we are sponsoring students through higher education and Cushman & Wakefield is providing work experience in other European offices.

Looking ahead to 2012 we will be expanding the network of schools we work with and, following the successful completion of the Miono school in Tanzania, will be bringing forward plans for further school construction projects. To enable this to take place we will be embarking on further fundraising activities, building on the money successfully raised from a variety of events over the last year.

Whether an involved participant or just interested in SATW, we ask that you give a few moments to consider how you can contribute to the charity so we may continue to help disadvantaged children aspire to a better future.

On behalf of all the Trustees of Schools Around the World we thank all of you who have helped us so far.
