Schools Around World Inspiration for Aspirations

Kilimanjaro 2010

kilimanjaro

In August this year, a team of 13 staff representing a total of 10 of the European countries where Cushman & Wakefield operates, will set out on a gruelling trek to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa.

The SATW Kilimanjaro trek is an opportunity for the individual participants to raise awareness and funds for SATW and to further develop relationships with their adopted schools and to progress SATW initiatives within each of their own countries.

Harry Farthing, Managing Partner of Cushman & Wakefield’s Italian operations and an experienced climber, who is leading the SATW Kilimanjaro climb said: “As we emerge from a financial crisis that has effected the entire world, we remain more committed than ever to taking SATW forward across our EMEA region. What is really exciting about this climb is that we have a truly pan-European Cushman team and whilst we range from experienced climbers, trekkers to complete novices, we all share a common aim which is to make this climb and through it champion SATW and to make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people in all of our countries of activity.”

The SATW Kilimanjaro trek is expected to take approximately 10 days in early August and will take what is known as the ‘Lemosho Glades Route’ which gives a good progressive acclimatisation to the summit height of 5,895 m / 19,340 ft. The trek will be also be led by British climber, Rhys Jones who reached the summit of Mount Everest on his 20th Birthday and claimed a World record as the youngest ‘Seven Summiteer’ (ie summiting the seven highest continental peaks). Rhys climbed with Harry Farthing on his Everest climb in 2006 which he undertook to launch SATW at an international level.
